Narai Tanabe (田邊 名来 Tanabe Narai) is a supporting character in the Sound! Euphonium series. He was a student at Kitauji High School two years above Kumiko Oumae who played percussion in the school's concert band. He was also the percussion section leader in Kumiko's first year.
Appearance[]
Narai has short ruffled forest-green hair that is swept to the left side and light lime eyes.
He is usually seen with a standard Kitauji High School uniform for boys.
Personality[]
Little is known about Narai's personality, but he seems to be a good percussion section leader who is very enthusiastic and passionate when it comes to playing percussion in the band.
Relationships[]
Narai is particularly close with Masahiro Hashimoto, even bursting into tears when the latter announced he was leaving the students at the end of the summer.
Etymology[]
- The name Narai means "name, noted, distinguished, reputation" (名) (na) and "coming/come, due, next, since, cause, become" (来) (rai).
- Narai's surname Tanabe means "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta) and "edge, margin, side, border" (邊) (nabe).
Trivia[]
- Narai's nickname among his friends is "Knuckle."
- Narai has the most lines out of all the background band members.
