Sound! Euphonium: Welcome to the Kitauji High School Concert Band (響け! ユーフォニアム 北宇治高校吹奏楽部へようこそ Hibike! Yūfoniamu Kitauji kōkō suisōgakubu e yōkoso) is a manga tankōbon in 3 volumes. It was edited by Kono Manga ga Sugoi! following the publication of the story on their website, in 2015. The manga contains a total of 19 chapters.

It is the first installment of the manga adaptation and adapts the story of the novel Sound! Euphonium: Welcome to the Kitauji High School Concert Band.

The manga was drawn and written by Hami. Credited as well are Ayano Takeda for the original story and Nikki Asada for the character concepts. Supplementary pages at the end show Hami refined the character design herself.

Volume 1[]

The first volume comprises 4 chapters and has extra content at the end. Those are an afterword by Ayano Takeda, character designs and a short story by Hami on the origin of the manga. It was first published between November 2014 and January 2015 on Kono Manga ga Sugoi's website.

Chapter 1: Nice to meet you, Euphonium[]

In Nice to meet you, Euphonium (よろしくユーフォニアム Yoroku Yūfoniamu), Kumiko begins her first year of high school at Kitauji High School. She discovers the band that plays badly and later makes new friends in her class, Hazuki Katou and Sapphire Kawashima. They decide to join the Kitauji High School Concert Band together. Kumiko is schemed into the bass section by Asuka Tanaka, joining her new friends. Later on, the band discovers their new advisor Noboru Taki, and collectively decide to set their goal onto making it to the Nationals competition.

Chapter 2: Thrilling Arpeggio[]

The next chapter, Thrilling Arpeggio (ぞくぞくアルペジオ Zokuzoku Arupejio), establishes the relationships between Kumiko and several persons she knew beforehand that are Aoi Saitou, Reina Kousaka and Shuuichi Tsukamoto. It also introduces the bass section and its members, as the new first years discover the club.

Chapter 3: Evening Feroce[]

In Evening Feroce (ようぐれフェローチェ Yūgure Ferōche)[note 1], the band starts training at a very demanding pace under Taki's supervision, angering some students. Kumiko and Shuuichi get to discuss it after school by the river, but are overheard by Reina who gets angry at them for badmouthing Taki. This makes Kumiko remember her middle school's band.

Chapter 4: After-school Mezzo-forte[]

After-school Mezzo-forte (ほうかごメゾフォルテ Houkago Mezoforute)[note 2] starts with Taki leading the bass section through a foundational training session. Later, Taki gets the band to play together and is satisfied enough with the improvements. The band then prepares for the SunFes festival, the chapter ending on the morning before the festival.

Volume 2[]

The second volume comprises 7 chapters, and originally ran on the website from March to June 2015. Additionally, it contains a character relationships chart, as well as additional character designs from Hami and a presentation of band instruments by Asuka Tanaka to Hazuki Katou.

Chapter 5: Festival Time[]

Festival Time (ただいまフェスティバル Tadaima Fesutibaru) shows the band as they prepare to perform for SunFes. They are very nervous but Reina qualms their doubts with an assertive short melody. The band succeed to perform wonderfully.

Chapter 6: Goodbye Festival[]

As Kitauji's performance ends in Goodbye Festival (おつかれフェスティバル Otsukare Fesutibaru), the band is really proud of it. They then watch Rikka High School perform, Midori being very excited about it. Kumiko notices Azusa Sasaki at Rikka, and she goes to meet her after the festival. They then catch up while walking in Uji and eating some ice cream.

Chapter 7: Confession Calmato[]

Back to school in Confession Calmato (こくはくカルマート Kokuhaku Karumāto)[note 3], the club starts preparing for the competition. Taki then announces his choice for the pieces the band will play, Crescent Moon Dance by Namie Horikawa as the free choice piece and East Coast Wind[note 4] (the composer is not written) as the required piece. As the band comprises 81 members, but a maximum of 55 is accepted in the competition, Taki announces that there will be auditions to select the numbers, without any priority for seniority. This makes Aoi Saitou decide on leaving the band right after the announcement, causing a fuss within the club. Haruka Ogasawara and Kumiko run after her to talk about it in the hallway.

Chapter 8: Goodbye Smorzando[]

Goodbye Smorzando (それではスモルツァンド Soredewa Sumorutsando)[note 5] starts with Aoi telling Haruka how she hates the club and shouldn't have to try hard for it, while Kumiko listens hidden behind the corner. Haruka tries to argue but Aoi is adamant on quitting. But as she starts leaving Kumiko barge in to their surprise. Still, Aoi quits leaving Haruka crying, convinced she is no good. Asuka Tanaka then arrives at the scene to comfort her.

Chapter 9: Gossip Strepitoso[]

The next chapter, Gossip Strepitoso (こいばなストレピトーソ Koibana Sutorepitōso)[note 6], starts with Hazuki and Midori asking Kumiko if she has anything going on with Shuuichi as Hazuki has fallen for him. Follows various gossips exchanged during practice within the bass section. After sectionals, Shuuichi asks Kumiko to go home together.

Chapter 10: Festival Capriccio[]

Festival Capriccio (おまつりカプリショ Omatsuri Kapurisho)[note 7] features Kumiko and Shuuichi discussing in the train, when he asks her if she wants to go to the Agata festival with him. Kumiko is shocked and stutters answering later as the train just arrived. Another day, after practice, Shuuichi asks for her response, to which Kumiko grabs the girl passing by and blurts out she's going with her, that girl ending up being Reina Kousaka.

Chapter 11: Stars Syncopation[]

The last chapter, Stars Syncopation (ほしくずシンコペーション Hoshikuzu Shinkopēshon)[note 8], begins with Kumiko waiting for Reina the night of the Agata festival at the foot of the Daikichi mountain. They climb up together, exchanging special words, and admire the view of Uji night from the top.[note 9]

Volume 3[]

The third volume tallies 8 chapters. It was originally published on the website from June to October 2015. Volume 3 contains an updated character relationships chart, but no additional content at the end.

Chapter 12: At last, Audition[]

The first chapter, At last, Audition (いよいよオーヂション Iyoiyo Ōdishon), has Hazuki being slightly on the low after having been rejected by Shuuichi during the Agata festival. However she quickly gets back on her feet unlike Midori who feels like its her fault. The bass section navigates the heavy atmosphere before Kumiko talks it out with Hazuki on the train back.

Chapter 13: Welcome back, Audition[]

The auditions are now due. Welcome back, Audition (おかえりオーヂション Okaeri Ōdishon) shows us the band, and especially Kumiko, going through the blind auditions.[note 10]. Later on, Kumiko stumbles upon Aoi Saitou at the library and they talk about the band, Aoi feeling good about having quit.

Chapter 14: Memories Grave[]

Michie Matsumoto announces the audition results in Memories Grave (おもいでグラーヴェ Omoide Gurābe)[note 11]. Reina gets the trumpet solo, and Kumiko is chosen while Natsuki Nakagawa is not for euphonium. This worries Kumiko a lot, reminiscing about an incident from middle school where her senpai got angry over Kumiko "stealing" a part. Seeing this, Natsuki jumps in and invites Kumiko to a family restaurant.

Chapter 15: Rainfall Tempestoso[]

At the restaurant, in Rainfall Tempestoso (あめふりテンペシトーソ Amefuri Tenpesutōso)[note 12], Natsuki brushes off Kumiko's worries about her not being selected after the audition. They then talk a little about the previous year's situation when some second years left the band. Days later, the band finds itself in crisis as Yuuko Yoshikawa accuses Taki of favoritism for Reina during the audition.

Chapter 16: Straightforward Con Forza[]

Straightforward Con Forza (まっすぐコンフォルツァ Massugu Konforutsa)[note 13] picks up right after as Yuuko develops her accusations to Reina. Kaori tries to keep it quiet, before Reina finally leaves the room in a hurry, Kumiko on her tail. Reina tells Kumiko how she is frustrated about what she considers nonsense, and doubting of Taki's decision.

Chapter 17: A Strong Conductor[]

In Strong Conductor (つよきなコンダクター Tsuyoki na Kondakutā), Taki announces to the band that they are gonna hold a joint concert with Rikka High School. That night, Kumiko forgot her wallet in the practice room. She comes back to school and has to ask Taki to accompany her to get it. They get to talk about Taki's desire for the band to reach the nationals. Another day, during practice, Kumiko surprises Kaori Nakaseko practicing the solo trumpet that Reina got.

Chapter 18: Audition Again[]

As Asuka surprises Kumiko spying on Kaori practicing the solo in Audition Again (ふたたびオーヂション Futatabi Ōdishon), they get to talk about Kaori and who should get the solo. Later, the band goes to a concert hall for practice when Kaori asks Taki if she can retry the audition for the solo. Taki agrees and only Reina engages in the surprise audition as well. Kaori finally concedes in tears.

Chapter 19: Goodbye Competition[]

The time has finally come for the prefectural competition in Goodbye Competition (さよならコンクール Sayonara Konkūru). Kitauji plays their program, the various characters being very emotional before. After, Asuka sits down with Kumiko telling her she is satisfied with the journey when Kumiko jumps and shouts that it is not the end as their target is the national competition. Finally, the result arrive. Kitauji gets gold and is selected for the next round to the overwhelming joy of the whole band.
